If you are experiencing networking issues on your Kali Linux machine as your work through the Active Directory series, work through these troubleshooting steps.
Your Kali Linux Machine has two adapters
- One adapter is set to NAT (This is the adapter that provide internet access)
- One adapter is set to VMNET5 (This is plugged into your Active Directory Network)
Check your VMWare Settings:

Click on each adapter and choose ‘Remove’ to unplug them from the Virtual Machine.

Once both network cards have been remove, click ‘OK’

Go back to your settings and click ‘Add’

Choose ‘Network Adapter’ and then ‘Finish’
- It is important you add one network card at a time.

Repeat this step one time to add another network card and you will have two network cards set to NAT within your settings

Set the bottom (second) network card to VMNET5
